This year, last year and all the years before that we have done a presentation called the PYP exhibition. PYP stands for Primary Years Program, and in french it's l'Exposition Programme Primaire. For the 5fth graders, they are going to do a pre-PYP, so it's not as big as the one for the 6th graders. The one for the 6th graders needs much more time and preparation to reach the goal. The goal is to teach the whole school community what you have learnt during your time in this school. I am in 6th grade, so I already did the preparatory exhibition. The subject for last year was beliefs. I was in a team with LL, FS, and BC. We did our presentation on clothing beliefs. This year, I am with LL, and our class is doing it on children's rights. I am doing the presentation with LL, but our subjects are different. I am doing it on child labour, and LL is doing it on the right to play.

PYP Reflections
The most important things I learnt from doing this exhibition was about child labour, the right to play and how to manage stress. I didn’t know much about child labour, and I certainly did not know that it still went on in almost all countries. I also did not know how much playing was important. I do not think that I ever had a project with this much work to do, and that was this stressful. One night, I woke up at 3:00 AM, thinking about the project.
I think that I demonstrated the characteristics of being knowledgeable, communicator, and balanced. For knowledgeable, I think I demonstrated it by having already known a bit about it at the beginning, and I learnt more about it throughout the preparation. For being a communicator, I think that Lana and I communicated well by making a play, having posters, a survey, and a fun game on the computer about children’s rights. I think I was balanced by having Technology, English, Science, Math, and Art included in my presentation.
This year’s experience was different from last year’s because I think that the sixth graders did much more than last year, and the fifth graders did much more technology than last year. On the other hand, last year’s fifth graders had much more information. We had started much earlier last year too, and the fifth graders started at the same time as the sixth graders. Also, last year we had finished everything before the deadline, and this year it was much more stressful. Last year we had wasted a lot of time. We also wasted time this year, but not nearly as much.
If I would do the project again, I think I would make the script less long, so that the audience would have more time to look at the posters. When doing the presentation, I was talking too fast and the audience didn't hear everything I was saying.

-Come with us for an adventure around the world to learn about child labour and the right to play. Did you know that playing is not only fun but also good for your health?
AK: Business time. Did you know that 85% of the world’s slavery is children? That means children are working right now instead of going to school!
LL- Did you know that there are children in the world that do not know how to play? The right to play is the children’s right the most ignored, but one of the most important!
AK- Here are the worst countries involving child labour: First is Myanmar, then North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Burundi, Pakistan, and finally Ethiopia. There are even child labourers in the United States, about 100,000. Isn’t that crazy? They’re so close to Canada!
LL- Yes, there are even adults and grandparents that can’t read or write. Personally, I don’t even know anybody that can’t read above the age of 6 years old!
AK- Have you ever heard about girl slavery? Well, now everybody is concentrating to stop girl slavery, and ignoring the boys. 15% of girl slavery has gone down, but slavery among boys had increased.
The Children, Right to Play Canada, Me 2 We, Be The Change, ACCESO International, Because I Am a Girl, etc.
CK: Sorry to interrupt this learning moment, but we need to go back to Ottawa and get ready for landing. Once again, make sure you fasten your seat belts.
LL- Now that we have seen that, by working, children’s rights to play are removed. Did you know that they are not the only countries that have these problems? Almost all the countries in the world have child labour and the problem of children not being able to play.
AK- Canada only stopped child labour in the 1950s, not so long ago! I think that child labour is a problem to be fixed. I was very surprised when I learnt that child labour and slavery still goes on in almost all countries. Also, when we have our recesses, we take it for granted without thinking that there are children in the world that don’t even know that they have a right to play.

Imagine all the children
Doing child labor
Some kids can’t play
Instead they work all day
Imaginez les enfants
Qui essayent de vivre justement...
Imagine no education
It’s pretty hard to do
This is a major problem
For aboriginals too
Imaginez les enfants
Qui essayent de vivre justement...
Imagine children without rights
And without a hope for change
No fair chance of survival
We must make sure all kids are heard
Imagine no starvation
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
No sweets or fatty foods
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…
You may say we are dreamers
But we're not the only ones
We hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
Imagine all the children
Doing child labor
Some kids can’t play
Instead they work all day
Imaginez les enfants
Qui essayent de vivre justement...
Imagine no education
It’s pretty hard to do
This is a major problem
For aboriginals too
Imaginez les enfants
Qui essayent de vivre justement...
Imagine children without rights
And without a hope for change
No fair chance of survival
