An old, run-down, street in England, at nighttime.
B. The Atmosphere I’ll create in my Story:
Dark, mysterious
Words and phrases I might use to create the atmosphere:
Sounds: Crickets at night, rustling of tree leaves, dogs barking
Odors: pine trees, fresh brisk air
Sights: Broken down houses, gnarled trees
Touch: Splintery wood mailboxes, cracked asphalt, dusty houses and dirty old cars
C. Main Characters for my story:
Me: I’ll be the first-person narrator. Why am I in the setting I’ve described?
My husband is kidnapped, and I am trying to find and rescue him.
I am an older version of myself.
Two other Main characters (name and describe each one)
- Edward: Average adult height, brown hair, brown eyes
- Louis: Short, blue eyes, brown hair, and has a limp
As I walked through Elm Street (where I live), a black cat streaked past in front of me. As I am a very superstitious woman, I screamed and backed away. A black cat means something terrible is going to happen. Right as I was about to enter my house, I heard strange scuffling noises, as if someone was leaving the house. I had a quick look outside the house, just to make sure. Nothing had changed. As I went inside, everything seemed strangely quiet. I called my husband.
-Edward! Edwaaaaard!!!
No answer. Maybe he went outside to run some errands. I waited calmly for him to come back. I started preparing supper, which was a fancy roast chicken and mash. I wanted something special, since it was our anniversary. After I finished the mash and the roast was in the oven, I sat down to read. As I read, I thought, that’s strange. He’s usually back by now. Then I decided to call him, but no answer, which is funny, because he always answers when I call him. I went outside to go look for him. It sounded as if the crickets were especially loud tonight, and the dogs were especially excited, due to the amount of barking they were doing. Maybe it’s because I was frightened. Oh, our street is so spooky at night! With all the broken-down houses and gnarled trees, who wouldn’t be scared? Then I heard a revving of an engine.
I ran to it, because there aren’t usually any people driving at this time of night, and that any clue of where my husband was, was worth knowing. I hid behind a mailbox, which may sound like nothing, but the mailboxes in our neighborhood were big and splintery. The car was slowly driving out where it was parked, which was on the main road outside our street. I then figured that it would give me enough time to sprint back to our house, grab our car and follow them. I don’t know why, but my instincts told me that this would lead me to Edward. When I got to the spot that this mysterious person was parked, he was gone! There are two ways that he could have gone; right or left. I always choose right, because it tends to be the “right” way. I sped up, and at the next stoplight, there he was! I couldn’t believe my luck. I drove up beside him, to get a closer look. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was Louis Cross, the most wanted criminal in London! Now I knew for sure that this would lead me to my husband. I wonder what he would have done that Louis Cross wanted to track him down? I drove for about another half hour, until he stopped at a gas station. So that he wouldn’t think I was following him, I parked a little bit farther on, but in a place where I could still see him. He got out of the car and started walking- towards me! I got out of the car and he asked me:
“Who are you?”
“I am the wife of Edward Smith. What have you done with him?”
“So I see that you know him. Come with me.”
I found this a rather scary request, considering that he is the most feared criminal in all of London. I got into his car, in the back seat, so i could see his every move.
“What about my car?”
“Do you care more about your car or your husband?”
I grew quiet. He drove for another fifteen minutes, onto a dirt road, and finally parked near an abandoned house.
“Get out!” he said.
I got out and followed him into the house. It was full of dust, cobwebs, and there was a dirty old car parked outside the house. As we got in, the floorboards creaked with every step we took. I followed him to the basement, where there was a strange music playing. When we got there, I saw Edward gagged and held up on a wooden post.
“Edward!” I cried.
“Mmph!” he said.
“I’ll get you out, I promise!” I said.
“Not until you give me 10 000 dollars and your car.” Louis said.
“No!”
He pointed his gun at me.
“Hands up, don’t move.”
That’s when one of those rare clever ideas sprang up in my head. I put my hands up. He turned around, and started untying and ungagging Edward. I sprang up to him, and took him down in a wrist-lock takedown.
“Edward! Come and help!”
“Thanks for finding me!”
“Less talk, more work!”
“What would you like me to do?”
“Take you ropes and gag and give them to me.”
He threw them over.
“Now what?” he asked.
“Hold him down while I tie him up and gag him.”
Louis wriggled and kicked, but I didn’t stop. When I finally finished, I tied him up on the same post where Edward was hung.
“How’s the air up there?” Edward asked.
“Mmph!” he answered.
“So, now what?” I asked.
“911” he said simply.
We called 911, but at first they didn’t believe us. We actually had to text them a picture of him hung up, and then they came in pretty fast. We got a reward of 100, 000 dollars! After all the commotion, we asked the police to tow us back our car, so they did. When we went back home, Edward was surprised that the house was partially on fire.
“What happened to our house???????” he asked.
“Oops! I forgot all about the roast beef we were going to have. It was our anniversary dinner! Oh well, what a waste. All that money spent on that chicken!”
“That reminds me, what are we going to do with all this money?” Edward asked.
I smiled and said,
“Buy a new house!!!”
Epilogue and answers
The reason that Edward was being tracked down by Louis was because when Edward was running errands at the bank, Louis was looking at the amount of money that he had deposited in the bank. He then waited for him to exit the bank, and when he did, he drugged him with chloroform. He tied him up in the car, and then brought him to his headquarters. He was planning to steal his money then kill him, but Ana came and saved him. The reason that Louis had gone to Edward and Ana’s street was because he had not suspected that Edward had a wife, and when Ana heard the scuffling noises, that was when Louis was escaping the house with the money he was planning to steal. He did not end up stealing it, for that was the moment when Ana came home.
Edward was later put in ADX Florence, for a life sentence. He never escaped, and died in 2030 from an unknown sickness. Edward and Ana lived happily, bought a new car and house, and passed the rest of their lives uneventful of criminals.
